Our Transparency Report for the Second Half of 2023

April 26, 2024

Today, we are releasing our latest Transparency Report, which covers the second half of 2023.

Our mission is to empower people to express themselves, live in the moment, learn about the world, and have fun together – and the safety and well-being of our community are essential to helping Snapchatters do each of those things. Our semi-annual transparency reports are an important tool to hold ourselves accountable, and share information about our efforts to combat violating content and accounts on our platform.

As we do with each transparency report, we’ve worked to make improvements so that this report better serves our community and key stakeholders. In this report, we've added several new data points, including:

Consolidated Terrorism & CSEA Metrics: We have expanded our main table to include reports and enforcement on Terrorism & Violent Extremism and Child Sexual Exploitation & Abuse (CSEA). We will continue to have an additional section for CSEA that outlines our proactive and reactive efforts to enforce against violating content and accounts, as well as decisions we’ve reported to NCMEC.

Expanded Appeals: We’ve provided expanded information on appeals, outlining total appeals and reinstatements as they relate to our policy reasons. We’ve also added definitions for Appeals and Reinstatements to our Transparency Report Glossary.

New EU Regulatory Insights: We’ve expanded upon our European Union section, providing increased insight into Snap’s efforts related to the European Digital Services Act and additional information related to CSEA scanning efforts. We will continue to update our transparency reports in response to global regulations as they arise.

We remain committed to earning and keeping the trust of our community and stakeholders, and will continue working to help keep the platform safe, report on our progress, and hold ourselves accountable.
