Honoring National Fentanyl Awareness Day 2026

April 29, 2026 marks the fifth annual National Fentanyl Awareness Day—a moment to pause, renew, and take action.

At Snap, the safety and well-being of our community are top priorities, and our goal has always been to encourage self-expression and real-life, authentic connections.  Our approach of safety by default is deeply rooted in this idea.  It’s about helping protect our community and helping to ensure teens and families have the knowledge they need to stay safe in a world where risks don’t always look dangerous at first glance.

The Reality We Can’t Ignore

Fentanyl’s deadly force has left no one and no place immune; these powerful drugs have devastated families and communities  and continue to be one of our most urgent public health challenges. Counterfeit pills, often made to look like familiar prescription medications, are increasingly found not just on the street, but in everyday spaces and online environments. That gap in awareness that these fake pills may contain dangerous substances is exactly what National Fentanyl Awareness Day aims to close.

A Community Effort That Keeps Growing

Every year, thousands of schools, organizations, companies, and families come together around April 29 to raise awareness and share life-saving information. This growing movement reflects a simple truth: no single group can solve this alone.

We’re proud to stand in support of National Fentanyl Awareness Day. The work to help educate young people and families about this public health crisis is critical and we salute the first responders, public health servants, law enforcement and families that have committed themselves to this work.

Building Safer Digital Spaces

Awareness doesn’t stop at information—it extends to the tools and environments young people use every day.

That’s why we continue investing in features and educational resources designed to support safer online experiences:

  • The Keys: A Guide to Digital Safety: Our interactive course helps teens and families navigate potential online risks, recognize warning signs, and build safer habits in digital spaces. It’s designed to turn uncertainty into confidence, giving teens and families practical ways to talk about safety and make informed decisions.

  • Family Center Enhancements: With deeper insights available through Family Center, parents and caregivers can better understand how their teens are using Snapchat—while still respecting their independence. These tools are built to encourage conversations, not surveillance, helping families stay connected and informed.

Together, these efforts aim to create a digital ecosystem where awareness and protection go hand in hand.

What You Can Do

National Fentanyl Awareness Day is not just a date—it’s an invitation, to:

  • Start a conversation with a teen in your life

  • Share credible information within your community

  • Learn how to recognize and avoid counterfeit pills

  • Use available tools to support safer online experiences

Even a single conversation can change a decision. A single piece of knowledge can save a life.

Moving Forward, Together

This work is ongoing. The risks evolve, but so does our response.

Tackling the fentanyl crisis and its impact on Americans requires practical solutions and collective action from a diverse range of stakeholders.

By partnering with organizations like Song for Charlie, investing in safety tutorials, and continuing to improve and add to our suite of safety tools, we remain committed to helping protect our community, especially young people navigating an increasingly complex world (both online and off).

On April 29 and every day after, we stand with families, educators, and advocates working to raise awareness because awareness is not just information – it’s empowerment.
