Online safety on Snapchat

Prohibited content
All Snapchatters must abide by our Terms of Service, including our Community Guidelines. These rules apply to all content and behaviour on Snapchat — and to all Snapchatters. They prohibit using Snapchat to send or post content that’s illegal in your jurisdiction, or for any illegal activity. In India, this includes material that violates Indian law, such as Rule 3(1)(b) of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
Content prohibited on Snapchat includes:
- Sexual content, including child sexual exploitation and abuse imagery (CSEAI); adult pornographic content; and other content harmful to children
- Hateful, discriminatory, terrorist, and extremist content, including relating to gender, race, ethnicity, religion, or caste
- Harassment, bullying, and invasion of privacy
- Harmful false or deceptive information, including misinformation, fake news, and “deepfakes”
- Illegal and regulated activities, including relating to criminal activities, illegal promotion of regulated goods or industries (such as gambling), and money laundering
- Fraudulent conduct, including identity theft, impersonation, and intellectual property rights infringement
- Distribution of spam and malicious software (malware)

Consequences of sharing prohibited content
Sharing the categories of content described above violates Snap's Community Guidelines and Terms of Service, and may violate Indian laws, such as the Indian Penal Code, IT Act 2000, Consumer Protection Act, Juvenile Justice Act, and other relevant laws. As indicated in the Terms of Service and Community Guidelines, violations of law may result in removal of content; issuance of a warning; suspension or termination of an account; and/or referral to law enforcement, among other consequences.
