Spectacles 2024 Supplemental Privacy Policy

Effective: September 20, 2024

Welcome to Snap Inc.’s Supplemental Privacy Policy for Spectacles 2024. We’ve created this policy to provide additional information for individuals who are using the Spectacles 2024 device and the companion Spectacles App (together “Spectacles”). This policy supplements, and is in addition to, our Privacy Policy and region specific notices and it explains how Snap collects, uses, and shares your data on Spectacles.

Control Over Your Information

We want you to be in control of your information, so we provide you with a range of tools, including:

  • Location Permission. By default your location information (precise location through methods like GPS signals) will not be collected unless you enable it in the Spectacles App. You can always disable this feature at any time in your Spectacles App.

  • Camera and Microphone. When you pair your Spectacles device with your Spectacles App, access to the Camera and Microphone on your Spectacles device is required for it to operate. You can remove the Spectacles App’s access to the Camera and Microphone on your Spectacles device by stopping use of your Spectacles device.

  • Delete your Captures. Images or video recordings that you have captured on your Spectacles device are automatically deleted from your device when you download your Captures using the Spectacles App.

Information We Collect

When you use Spectacles we collect information you provide to us, information we generate when you use Spectacles or other information we receive with your permission, including:

  • Camera & audio information. To provide you the Spectacles experience, we’ll need to collect information from your camera and microphone:

    • Information about your hands. To navigate on Spectacles you’ll need to engage your hands. For example, you access the in-lens menu by looking at your palm and you pinch, drag and pull AR objects in a lens experience with your fingertips. This would not be possible without the collection of information related to your hands. We look at the size of your hands including the estimated distance between your knuckles, the position, and motion of your hands in order to render AR animated hands and position objects based on hand position and movement.

    • Information about your voice. To communicate with features on Spectacles — like My AI — you’ll use voice commands which means we’ll process your audio to create text transcripts. The microphone may also pick up on sounds surrounding you when you use Spectacles.

    • Information about your surroundings: We collect information about the physical space you're in. For example, we may recognize objects in your environment like walls, windows, and furniture and we estimate the size, shape, and distance of those objects. This information helps us provide you with an immersive AR experience.

  • Fit Adjustments. To make sure that Spectacles are optimal for you we’ll collect information related to fit and preferences:

    • Eye distance. We'll collect information about the distance between your eyes. This will help with comfort, visual clarity, and a better AR experience for you. You can either provide this information to us yourself through the Spectacles App or we’ll estimate and collect it for you through the Camera when you first use Spectacles. The eye distance information collected will persist on your Spectacles device. You can change your fit adjustment at any time in the Spectacles App.

    • When using the Spectacles iOS App to estimate your eye distance, we use the TrueDepth camera on your phone to capture accurate eye distance face data. Note, however, that this information is used in real time — we don’t store this information on our servers or share it with third parties.

  • Location Information. Having your location enabled will allow you to add location-specific Lenses, stickers, filters and save this information with your captured photos or videos.

  • Captured photos and videos. You may choose to take photos or record videos with Spectacles. Your captured content will stay on your device until you download it using the Spectacles App.

How We Use Information

As described in our Privacy Policy, we use your information for various purposes beyond  operating, delivering, and maintaining Spectacles. For example, we use your information to:

  • Personalize your Spectacles, using your information like fit adjustments.

  • Develop and improve our machine learning models for augmented reality.

  • Analyze your information, such as engagement and metadata with lenses to spot trends and usage patterns, helping us understand demand.

How We Share Information

As described in our Privacy Policy, we share information about you with others for various reasons. For example, Colocated Lenses may share your display name, device information, Bitmoji, certain camera data, and actions you take with other participants in the Colocated Lens. We may also share your information with service providers, including our Lens developers.

If you choose to use My AI on Spectacles, we may share information, at your direction, with third party providers — like YouTube through the use of their API service — in order to provide you with better search results or answers to questions you may ask My AI. Please take the time to read Google's Privacy Policy to learn how they process your personal information.
